- INTRODUCTION.
-
- The "MYPIANO 3" program has been created and designed to
- benefit people of all ages, especially beginners and
- children. It allows everyone the opportunity to learn, in
- an effortless and entertaining way, all about general
- music concepts and culture, like notes, tempo and length
- and it is ideal for piano practice, copying tunes,
- composing songs, as well as playing games. It is a
- compact, simple way for all the family to check, practise
- and improve their musical abilities.
-
- "MYPIANO 3" comes complete with the following 9 languages:
- Danish, Dutch, English, French, German, Greek, Italian,
- Portugese, Spanish and Catalan.
-
- You have the possibility of obtaining your own full and
- personalised copy of "MYPIANO 3", complete with a personal
- message if it is to be given as a present. See Distribution
- System for details.
-
- "MYPIANO 3" does not claim to be a real piano, however the
- synchronised mode is close to the sound obtained from a
- real one; the sound of the note remains until the finger
- is taken off the key.
-
- "MYPIANO 3" has preserved as many similarities as possible
- with a real piano:
-
- - The design takes the form of a grand piano, with
- colours to locate easily the positions of all 7
- octaves.
-
- - The functions available are shown in the form of a
- music rest.
-
- Further novelties include:
-
- - The keyboard has been adapted in such a way that
- each note can be obtained easily and logically,
- while preserving normal typing procedures, thus
- speed and typing efficiency will be improved.
-
- - Every time a note is played back on "MYPIANO 3", the
- piano key is highlighted and the note (Do, Re, Mi
- etc.), as well as the length of the note (Semibreve,
- Minim, Crotchet etc.) are shown on the music rest.
-
- - Eight games to practise and enjoy musical abilities.
- (six of them available in full version only).
-
- These instructions provide a complete guide to "MYPIANO 3"
- users. However, further facilities will of course become
- apparent as you discover the program.

-
- 2 GENERAL MUSIC TERMS AND PIANO INFORMATION.
-
- Pianos have 84 notes, made up of 7 octaves, with each
- octave containing 12 main and auxiliary notes.
-
- The main 7 notes are:
-
- A,B,C,D,E,F,G or La, Ti, Do, Re, Mi, Fa, So
-
- The 5 auxiliary notes are:
-
- A#,B#,D#,E#,F# or B-,C-,E-,F-,G-
-
- # means sharp (raised half a tone in pitch.)
-
- - means flat (half a tone below the note.)
-
- The length of a note is the amount of time a note is
- played. Classical length notes on a piano have a specific
- coordination between each other. The maximum length of a
- note is Semibreve (whole note, L=1). The other notes are
- reduced by one half each time, as can be seen in the
- following list of notes, complete with the approximate
- duration in seconds of each note, for the default tempo
- (Moderato):
-
- LENGTH OF NOTE L SECONDS
-
- Semibreve 1 (Whole note) 2
- Minim 1/2 1
- Crotchet 1/4 0.5
- Quaver 1/8 0.25
- Semi-Quaver 1/16 0.125
- Demisemi-Quaver 1/32 0.0675
- 1/64 Note 1/64 0.03387
-
- The length, in seconds, of a note depends on the tempo
- (the speed at which a note is played). The tempos
- available are:
-
- TEMPO BEATS PER PROPORTION
- MINUTE
-
- Larghissimo 32 1
- Largo 48 1.5
- Larghetto 64 2
- Adagio 80 2.5
- Adagietto 96 3
- Moderato (Default) 120 3.75
- Allegro 160 5
- Presto 192 6
- Prestissimo 256 8
-
-
- Type.
-
- There are three different ways to play notes:
-
- 1. Legato: The program plays the whole note
- (smoothly and without breaks).
- 2. Normal: The program plays 7/8 of the length of the
- note and 1/8 pause.
- 3. Staccato: The program plays 3/4 of the length of the
- note and 1/4 pause (with each note clear
- and detached.)

-
- 3 KEYBOARD.
-
- "MYPIANO 3" uses the standard US keyboard configuration.
-
- The three rows of letters on the computer keyboard equate
- to the notes of "MYPIANO 3". Each row is one octave. The
- default is the middle three octaves (3, 4 and 5):
-
- The top row of letters is the third octave.
- The middle row is the fourth octave.
- The bottom row is the fifth octave.
-
- By pressing Backspace the computer keyboard changes to
- the bottom three octaves of the piano (Octaves 1, 2 and
- 3).
-
- By pressing the space bar, the computer changes to the
- top three octaves of the piano (5, 6 and 7). (For obvious
- reasons the "MYPIANO 3" keyboard lacks 3 notes. The middle
- row on the keyboard has 1 note missing and the bottom row
- has 2 notes missing.)
-
- The numbers on the keyboard are used to set the length of
- the note or to produce pauses.
-

- 9 FUNCTIONS AVAILABLE.
-
- When you access the "MYPIANO 3" program, the Main Menu
- automatically appears in the form of a music rest and
- contains the following functions:
-
- F1 Help F6 Mode
- F2 Instructions F7 Listen
- F3 Games F8 Tempo
- F4 Search F9 Edit
- F5 Type F10 Save
-
-
- Print: (Available in the full version only). To print the
- musical information (name and length of notes etc.)
- of the current tune. Other tunes must first be loaded
- using F4. You have the option of printing to the
- printer or to the screen (use arrows to select).
- Use tab to select Modern or Classical style tunes.
-
- F4: To choose a melody already available from "MYPIANO 3". Use
- tab or arrows to choose between tunes in modern or
- classical style notes and press enter. A screen will
- appear with the list. You may insert or delete a tune
- using the Ins/Del keys. Use the Home/End keys to place
- the cursor on the first/last tune of the list. Press
- Control and Enter to change the name of a tune. Using the
- arrows select the name and press enter again. MYPIANO 3
- will load the tune for you, allowing you to play back
- (F7), edit (F9) or save it with another name (F10).
-
- F5: To change the way notes are played. The options are
- Legato, Normal and Staccato. See General Music
- Terms and Piano Information for more details. The
- default is "Normal".
-
- F6: To change the mode (Foreground, Background, Synchronised,
- Miscellaneous) choose F6 and press Enter.
-
- Synchronised mode.
-
- The note sounds while the key is pressed and, the
- moment the key is released, it stops playing. If
- help is on, the following menu will appear:
-
- Letters Music Notes
- Numbers Pause
- Backspace Octave - 2
- Space Octave + 2
- Arrows New Tune (1)
- Tab Style (2)
- Enter Record (3)
- Esc Menu
-
- (1) Prepares "MYPIANO 3" only to save the tune you wish to
- record, without including notes previously recorded.
- (In other words, it resets the file named Modern
- or Classic.)
- (2) To change the notes from Classical style (i) to
- Modern style (ii), or vice versa.
- (3) You may choose to record (or not) what you are
- playing, by using Enter. If you choose to
- record, you have the option of recording in
- Classical style (i) or in Modern style (ii).
-
- (i) Classical Style.
-
- The relation between the length of the note is
- predetermined. See General piano Information. For
- example, if you are recording in Classical style and
- tempo Moderato, and you play a note that lasts 1.95
- seconds, "MYPIANO 3", when playing back the note, will
- convert the length of that note to the nearest
- classical length note, in this case 2 seconds.
-
- (ii) Modern Style.
-
- Records the actual time a note has been playing. For
- example, if a note has sounded 1.95 seconds, it will
- be played back as 1.95 seconds and will not have
- been converted into a classical length note. The
- Modern style option is available in Background and
- Synchronised mode only.
-
- Background mode.
-
- Is half Synchronised: it stops playing a note the minute
- you play another note, but the last note in a sequence
- will need a pause (any number on the keyboard) or it will
- keep on sounding.
-
- Foreground mode.
-
- Works only in Classical Style; You must preset the length
- of each note before playing it. The default is Crotchet.
- If you play a sequence of notes, the computer will not
- stop sounding until its own pre-set length has finished.
- If help is on, the following menu will appear:
-
- Letters Music Notes
- 123456 Length note (1)
- 7890-= Length Pauses (2)
- Backspace Octave - 2
- Space Octave + 2
- Arrows New Tune
- Enter Record
- Esc Menu
-
- (1) Numbers 1-6 are used to preset the length of each
- note. 1 is a whole note; 6 is 1/64 of the note.
- (2) These numbers control the length of the pauses.
-
- Convert Melody Mode (available in the full version only).
-
- Press Enter and choose the melody you wish to convert.
- The names of the created melodies will be shown by the
- following symbols:
-
- Modern to Classic: $
- Classic to Modern: @
-
- F7: To listen to a particular tune, either one already
- available from "MYPIANO 3" (having loaded the name of the
- file using F4) or the current one. "MYPIANO 3" will play back
- the tune for you, enabling you to hear how it sounds and
- edit if necessary (F9). You may listen to the tune in
- different tempos by choosing F8.
-
- F8: To alter the tempo of the music you wish to play (in
- Foreground only) or play back (in all modes). Each time
- you press F8, a different available tempo will appear.
- The default is Moderato. See General Music Terms
- and Piano Info. for the list of available tempos.
-
- F9: Activates the fast and efficient audio-visual Editor.
-
- Fast: By pressing only one key, you can change a note
- either by note, by octave, by three octaves or
- by changing from one end to the other of the
- piano keyboard; similar features are available
- for changing the length of a note.
-
- Efficient: The possible changes are preset so you do not
- need to worry about whether the changes you
- make are feasible or not.
-
- Audio-visual: While editing a note or its length you hear the
- new note and, simultaneously, you see,
- highlighted, its name, its octave, its length
- and the corresponding key on the piano
- Keyboard.
-
- Once the Editor is initiated, the first 8 notes of the
- current tune will be displayed in the music rest; if your
- melody contains more than 400 notes, you will be prompted
- to determine where you wish the Editor to begin. The
- music rest will appear as follows if the tune is recorded
- in Modern Style:
-
- 1 Do c 25
- 1 Re d 32
- 1 Mi e 20
- 1 Fa f 22
- 1 So Flat g 25
- 1 La a 39
- 1 Ti b 44
- 1 Sol g 16
-
- For example, in the first row, 1 means Octave 1; Do and c
- are the names of the note; 25 equates to the length of
- the note in 1/100 of a second. (If the tune has been
- recorded in Classical Style, the notes will be displayed
- with their Classical length names (Quaver, Semi-Quaver
- etc.) See General Piano Info. for further information.

- Left key after Home, the note will be
- converted into a pause.)
- End : Places the cursor on the last note of the
- piano keyboard.

- mode.
-
- If you are editing a pause (its length), or you have used

-
- - The score for the player and the total for all
- players is shown in the music rest.
-
- - In certain games, if Help is activated, some kind of
- help is displayed in the music rest.
-
- F1: Battle tune.
-
- An exciting new musical version of the well-known Battle
- Ship. "MYPIANO 3" will control all the movements and will
- show you all the information you need.
-
- To play, just follow the instructions:
-
- - Each player introduces his name.
-
- You may also play against "MYPIANO 3" by simply pressing
- Enter when prompted to give the second name or by
- typing "MYPIANO 3" followed by any other number (ie
- MYPIANO 4).
-
- Each time one of the players is "MYPIANO 3", you may
- select the level. 1 is Beginner, 10 is Expert. The
- default is 1.
-
- - Use Tab to choose the number of ships (1 to 10).
-
- - Then choose your ships, by pressing any letters of
- the keyboard, without showing your opponents. It is
- important to remember that the notes may be selected
- from the whole range of the piano keyboard and,
- therefore, space or backspace may be used to choose
- your own ships or locate enemy ships.
-
- As each note is defined, a ship is automatically
- stored and displayed in the music rest and its
- location will appear on the piano keyboard. A ship
- may be made up of 1, 2, 3 or 4 notes. Each player
- may listen to his opponent's ships (Tab) when it is
- the first player's turn, if all players agree.
-
- - Press any letter of the computer keyboard to attempt
- to hit your opponents' ships. Each player is told
- whether he has hit or missed a ship. When a ship is
- missed, the location of the miss is shown on the
- piano keyboard. When it is hit, the note will sound
- and the key will be highlighted in white. The
- previous hits and misses of each player are always
- shown when it is that player's turn. If a player
- presses a key that he has already attempted before,
- a message will appear telling him to try again.
-
- - Regardless of the amount of players, the game will
- always continue until there is one overall winner.
-
- Lightning and Thunder.
-
- Especially useful visual and audio games to learn and
- practise, using tunes available in "MYPIANO 3".
- Just follow these instructions:
-
- - Different tempos may be used, using F8 in the Main
- Menu.
-
- - If help is on, the name and length of the note are
- shown on the music stand.
-
- - When the melody ends, the program shows the total
- score (100 maximum) and the number of mistakes.
- The definitive score is the score minus two times
- the mistakes.
-
- - Each player has three turns to practise and
- therefore his best attempt will be used as his final
- score.
-
- F2: Lightning.
-
- - "MYPIANO 3" lights up a piano key on the screen and you
- have to press the corresponding note.
-
- - If the note is correct, the program plays back the
- note and lights up the piano key for the next note.
- Otherwise, it waits until the correct note is
- pressed.
-
- - Use Spacebar or numbers when a pause is needed.
-
- F3: Thunder.
-
- - "MYPIANO 3" plays a note and you have to press the
- corresponding note.

- next note. Otherwise, it waits until the correct
- note is pressed.
-
-
- F4: Race.
-
- A game of speed and stamina.
-
- - Press Tab to listen to the tune.
-
- - Each player has three turns to play the tune as
- quickly as possible and with as few mistakes as
- possible.
-
- - The quicker one plays, the fewer points one obtains.
- The score is the seconds plus the mistakes.
-
- - The player with the lowest score wins.
-
- F5: Tower.
-
- Improves your memory and ear.
-
- - Press Tab to begin the Tower, if all the players
- agree.
-
- - The first player plays a note of his choice.
-
- - The next player has to repeat that note and add
- another note. The next player plays the first two
- notes and a further note and so on.
-
- - Each note is represented by a brick in the music
- rest. As each note is added, the bricks increase,
- buiding a higher and higher tower.
-
- - When a player plays a note incorrectly, he receives
- one point. When he reaches three points, he is
- eliminated.
-
- F6: Minefield.
-
- A dangerous game to find and deactivate or explode
- musical mines, randomly distributed on the piano
- keyboard. The instructions are as follows:
-
- - Use Tab to select the amount of notes to find (5 to
- 20). The notes, as well as the score and running
- total, appear on the music rest.
-
- - Each player has the option of pressing Tab again to
- listen to the random notes before every turn.
-
- - The objective is to find all the unexploded notes
- played by "MYPIANO 3" and each player is told whether or
- not he has found the mine.
-
- - When all the mines have been deactivated, the game
- ends.
-
- F7: Iceberg
-
- A game of chance, ear and astuteness.
-
- - "MYPIANO 3" secretely allocates 15, 10 or 8 notes to

- (maximum 4).
-
- - The first player to obtain 5, 4 or 3 correlative
- notes (2, 3 or 4 players respectively) wins.
-
- - Each player selects a note, either to try to make a
- row himself, or to block his opponents' chances of
- making a row.
-
- - When all the players agree, and it is the first
- player's turn, you have the option to listen to all
- the notes.
-
- F8: Private eye
-
- If you wish to improve your ear, this game is ideal for
- you. (This publicity version of "MYPIANO 3" limits the
- selection of songs available to 10. See Distribution
- System).
-
- - Press Tab to choose whether "MYPIANO 3" plays the whole
- tune, 12, 8 or 4 notes of said tune.
-
- - If you choose a specified number of notes, press Tab
- to select which notes you wish to hear (first,
- second..., last).
-
- - Then simply guess the tune, by choosing the required
- name from the Search Menu.
-
- - The first player to reach five points wins.
